Before I give you my list of really good online tools that almost certainly help you to work remotely, I should write about one more item about self management and specifically to do with maintaining your focus and levels of concentration

I’ve observed and verified a consistent behavior in members of both sexes who work on the Internet and I’ve known for over a long time line and I call this behavior the 50 minute effect. I spotted these members of both sexes who apply themselves and work for fifty minutes and then pause for a whole 10 mins. rest and are considerably more efficient and produce a significantly better quality of work than colleagues who don’t have well organised working methods.

For just a few bucks a quarter ! am able to call and conference in any handset and Skype user in the world. The latest version of Skype has a wealth of very useful functions and there is an ever growing list of practical add on applications.

You surely know that my urge to work remotely was originally encouraged by Quickbooks Online, a small business accounting software web application. Running a defragmentation software is another useful step which will improve computer performance. 

Step 6 – Optimising the RAM

Running out of RAM too fast is not uncommon and users who have this problem should consider upgrading the memory on their computer. An alternative option, which is also free is simply not to use certain programs simultaneously.

Step 7 – Stop the computer from overheating

Faulty fans are a common cause leading to the computer overheating, slowing down then freezing as a result. The best solution is often to replace the fan, this overcomes the problem by increasing the air flow through the computer thereby reducing its temperature and ultimately improving reponse times.

To start over with my e-mail experience I modified my e-mail address and obsessively took precautions to defend the details being passed on to anyone. I then ‘trained’ everyone who I gave my e-mail address to, to use it prudently. I also created an auto-responder that swiftly informed anyone sending me mail my routine for attending to mail and if someone should have my immediate consideration to mark it as ‘Urgent’.

2. Get rid of alerts.

Disable every feature that can send you a visual or audible alert. This includes cell and
conventional handsets and forms of alerts from electronic mail such as display events, audible warnings, display changes to your inbox list and of course facing a window. Get a door on your work place and put up a ‘do not disturb’ sign on it.

Obviously not everyone is allowed to work remotely as there are some types of work that require individuals to be at their place of work or travel to perform their tasks in person. But for those of us who are allowed to work remotely then I thought it would be useful to share what I have learned and offer some practical advice by distributing it online with the sole objective of providing useful timesavers for adapting to remote working or managing remote workers.

Throughout the past 7 years I have significantly adapted my working methods to let me to do the whole of my work remotely with a portfolio of online tools and rigid self management.
